Every day we receive messages with these questions:
- I am can I straighten my hair when I'm pregnant?
- I'm breastfeeding, can I do progressive brushing?
First of all, I'd like you to know that I'm also a mum, so I've already been through this very beautiful and special period in a woman's life! As such, this is an issue that I pay special attention to...
This is a topic that is much debated, and the truth is that there is still not enough data to be able to answer with certainty.
It is already public knowledge that the straightening and progressive brushing, which contain formaldehyde, are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeedingeven if they have the minimum concentration permitted by Infarmed.
What hasn't yet been scientifically proven is whether the remaining formaldehyde-free hair straighteningIn the case of hairdressing products based on active ingredients other than formaldehyde, such as amino acids and other acids, whether or not they are bad for the baby.
The truth is that all compounds that are applied to the skin, and in this case the scalp, can be absorbed by the body, enter the bloodstream and thus reach the baby, and can be harmful to the baby.
Furthermore, the realisation of these hair straightening or progressive brushesThis causes the release of vapours, which, if inhaled, can also be harmful to the baby.
These facts apply just as much to mums who are in the pregnancy periodas for those in the breastfeeding period.
Even though we know that there are many people making straightening in these conditions, and knowing that the risk of anything happening is minimal, given that the amount of these ingredients absorbed by the body is very small, we don't advise.
We are also aware that there are some doctors with different opinions to what we have indicated, saying that the formaldehyde-free hair straightening can be done at these stages. And when this is the case, when a positive written opinion from a doctor is presented, we carry it out.
Otherwise, we'd rather ensure everyone's safety and that mums-to-be keep their natural hair until they're no longer a mum. breastfeed.
We don't think it's ethical to defend the realisation of straighteningwithout being entirely sure of the implications.
So what do we advise while you're pregnant or breastfeeding?

To make your hair more beautiful and moisturised, we recommend that you opt for other moisturising, reconstructing or nourishing services that will help reduce frizz! Of course, they won't straighten your hair... That's just a straighteningwill...
In our salon we have an excellent option for this time of year - The Philip Martin's organic rituals. These are treatments with products from organic farming, without toxic chemicals, which is great for pregnancy or breastfeeding.
These treatments have no contraindications and leave your hair beautiful and shiny, with much less frizz. Of course, they are not straightening nor progressive brushes. If your hair is curly, it will still be curly.
I hope I've helped many women with their decision!
