Olaplex History
O Olaplex was developed by two prominent scientists, Eric Pressly and Craig Hawker, both chemists by training and coming entirely from outside the cosmetics and beauty industry. The story began with a request from the company’s founder, Dean Christal, in search of a product that would remain in the hair for 25 washes.
These two chemistry PhD holders, who at the time were working on a study project to prevent organ transplant rejection in patients, accepted the challenge. Within 24 hours, they had a product ready for testing, with one key difference: it was a permanent treatment that did not wash out. They had created the first Olaplex, a molecule capable of repairing the disulfide bonds broken by chemical processes.
After the initial tests, it was concluded that the product was indeed the only one in the world capable of restoring hair to levels almost similar to its natural state. Furthermore, it allows hair to be coloured and bleached without causing significant damage.
Quickly, and despite being outside the reach of major brands, Olaplex gained notoriety. It was immediately used on the hair of Hollywood stars such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez, and the Kardashian sisters, among others, which catapulted Olaplex onto the global stage.
Today, it is a product used worldwide, and although several brands now claim similar effects, in our opinion, none achieve the same results.
Olaplex in bleaching and colouring
In order to mitigate the damage caused by bleaching powder to the hair fibre, as well as the chemicals present in hair dyes, Olaplex is mixed into the respective formula. This way, we can achieve all hair tones without leaving it brittle or damaged.
Olaplex treatment
The Olaplex treatment is used when hair is already damaged and brittle, to restore elasticity, body, and cosmetic quality.
